Council members were pleased to welcome GA Chief Officer Liz Slade to their meeting on 16 March. Liz had much to report from the national movement and was really helpful in explaining the ins-and-outs of the motions that will be put to the GA Annual Meetings in April.
Supporting the Red Cross
Unitarians have a long tradition of supporting the Red Cross.
The Annual Assembly of the Western Union took place in June 2023 at Cullompton. Our new President is Fran from Taunton.
The afternoon session was devoted to eco-spirituality. Two of our retired ministers, Revs Maria and Elizabeth, led together on worship interwoven with workshops on environmental issues.
Special guests, including our retiring President, Sheila, were presented with tokens from the Woodland Trust, covering the cost of the planting of a broadleaf tree.
Gathering at Moretonhampstead
The annual Service of Witness at Moretonhampstead Chapel took place in July this year. The current user of the space is an artist who creates animals from wicker, so guests were surrounded by creatures of the forest.
Picnic in the Park at Taunton
Rain stopped play at Vivary Park this summer. Nevertheless, the picnic lunch was held in the Manse instead and followed by a service. Friends from Bridgwater, Crewkerne, and Plymouth attended. After the service there was Tea. With Cake, of course!
